There are a few things our vineyard has in abundance: vines, wildlife, views and a rather spectacular sense of isolation.
What it doesn’t have is water. Or mains power. Or a particularly forgiving road.
We collect the water that falls from the sky in our dam, and we’re working towards generating our own power. But when it came time to think about a cellar door, we had a simple thought:
Perhaps we should put it somewhere with an actual building.
So in December 2024, we opened the Highclare Estate Wine Room in the heart of Launceston CBD, directly opposite the gates to City Park, bringing a little piece of our Tamar Valley vineyard into the city.
It’s our place to share the wines, tell the story behind them and give people a chance to experience Highclare without having to navigate the vineyard’s rather enthusiastic road.
Come in for a tasting, stay for a glass, build a platter, pick up a bottle or simply settle in for a while. Whether you’re visiting Launceston, exploring the Tamar Valley or a local looking for somewhere to enjoy a glass of Tasmanian wine, the Wine Room is where Highclare comes to you.
And yes, there is running water.
